The eight-week summer program in Korean language and culture, organized by the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania under the auspices of CAORC(Council of American Overseas Research Centers) was based on Kyung Hee University Global Campus at Suwon, located twenty-five miles south of Seoul, South Korea in 2007. As part of the National Security Language Initiative, a U.S. government interagency effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, the United States Department of State and CAORC have made available full scholarships for intensive overseas study in the Korean language. All program costs is covered by these scholarships, including travel to and from the student's home city and Korea, pre-departure orientation costs, visa fees, room, board, travel within Korea, and entrance fees for program activities.
The University of Pennsylvania has partnered with Kyung Hee University to offer the Korean Summer Language Institute in Korea. The program is equivalent to one year of college-level coursework in Korean. Upon completion of the program, students should expect to advance on proficiency level, based on individual efforts. |
