Political science is a discipline to empirically analyze political phenomena, normatively criticize political reality, and promote a desirable model of politics. The Department of Political Science is an academic community for the students of political science to pursue such goals. The department was rated as one of the top 5 political science departments by the Joong Ang Daily in 2002. The department also has two affiliated institutes: the Institute for Korean Politics and the Institute for Citizen Politics.


1) At least 24 course units of graduate level credit in Political Science courses are required for the master's degree, 60 course units for the doctor's degree (including units completed in the master's course)


2) Students have to pass a qualifying examination.


3) Students must fulfill presentation, defense, and document requirements for the Political Science thesis committee.


4) A thesis advisor should be a faculty member from the Department of Political Science.

1) Institute for Korean Politics
The Institute for Korean Politics focuses on the study of Korean politics as well as a variety of issues of comparative and international politics. The Institute publishes "Journal of Korean Politics."

2) Institute for Citizen Politics
The Institute for Citizen Politics focuses on the study of citizen politics as well as other comparative and international political issues. Together with the Association of Citizen Politics, the Institute publishes "Journal of Citizen Politics."
