is concerned with the study of child
development in the context of the family
and with the education of professionals
in early childhood education and child
welfare services. Family Studies is
designed to provide an in-depth understanding
of families and preparation of specialists
in family life education and family
counseling. The Child & Family Studies
at Kyunghee major prepares students
to work with children and their families.
Kyung Hee has a strong tradition of
research and teaching in Child &
Family Studies. The major pursues three
educational goals; first, training students
to be professionals in a variety of
agencies and organizations serving children;
second, training students to be specialists
in family life education and family
counseling; third training students
to be teachers in child care settings
and in middle and high schools. In order
to accomplish these goals 1)this program
provides the knowledge and skills about
child development/education and family
science that will enhance the well-being
of children and their family and 2)this
program offers several practicum and
field experience with child and family
for students to apply their knowledge
to real world. 3)this program also provides
preparation for students interested
in teacher certification program in
early childhood and secondary education.
To receive the Bachelor of Science in

to be housing professionals as interior
designer, multi-housing manager, interior

Kyung

represent the full spectrum of the Housing
and Interior Design major curriculum:
first, training students to become a
Interior Designer, Interior Coordinator,

a variety of positions in textile, retail,
apparel/fashion firms. They typically
start their careers as a designer, merchandiser,
displayer, fashion coordinator, illustrator,
sales representative, buyer trainee,
manager or fashion promoter. For graduates
with good writing skills, fashion journalism
may be an option. Those with fluent
foreign language skills find a career
in trade firms of textiles and apparel
products. With a teacher's certificate,
positions in junior high and high school
teaching are also possible. Some graduates
who are pursuing academic careers continue
to study in graduate programs.

of the members of the community and

As the standard of living has improved
and life span has extended, people are
more concerned about their health and
their desire for food is diversified.
In addition, the population of the aged
and singles plus women's advances in
society are influencing eating habits.
The role of food and nutrition is expected
to enhance the balanced dietary and
healthful life of contemporary people.
The Department of Food and Nutrition
started in 1966 as the Department of
Home Economics in the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences. It was renamed in
1978 the Department of Food and Nutrition
of the School of Home Economics, the
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences;
in 1988 the Department of Food and Nutrition,
the College of Home Economics; in 1997
the Department of Food and Nutrition,
the College of Human Ecology.
In a globalized, industrialized, and
informationalized modern society, the
Department of Food and Nutrition at
Kyung Hee University aims to produce
highly-educated graduates specializing
in eating habits with the goal of realizing
a healthful society on the basis of
the scientific knowledge of food and
nutrition. The Department also aims
to educate future-oriented professionals
needed in the modern society by producing
graduates with the ability to prevent
diseases, choose food scientifically,
and manage meals reasonably.
To
receive the Bachelor of Science in Food
and Nutrition,
1) students must complete a minimum
of 130 credit units
2) students may choose the Food and
Nutrition program either as a single
major or as a multiple major.
3) students must complete a minimum
of 60 credit units as a single major
in Food and Nutrition.
: The in-depth program requires the
students to take at least 60 credit
units including the elective courses.
4) Multiple Major Program
: Students who select Food and Nutrition
as a double major must fulfill at least
36 credits.
5) Certificate for Registered Dietitian
: Students who want to take the Registration
Examination for Dietitians are recommended
to take all courses required for the
exam.
6) Students are recommended to complete
the courses (20 credits) required to
become a nutrition teacher.
